If you are already here on the site check the categories on the right of the screen:
One category is for those who need more info or reason to decide.
The other category is for those who know they would like to learn to play in a day.

Just imagine. If you are seated in front of a computer, smart phone, Kindle Fire, iPAD then you can hear almost instantly any music that has ever been created; by almost any player who has become famous or even popular. And for that I salute the technology I helped to create and impliment.

I predict that many Play in a Day graduates replace many of those popular players as time goes by. It’s only logical!

But, I think we are missing the joy of making fun with and sharing music. Most of us do not have time to take a break from life and enroll in Juliard. Nor should we. But we DO have time to exercise that urge that many of us have to play an instrument. ESPECIALLY IF WE CAN LEARN TO DO IT IN A DAY. And continue to learn to do it better each day at the same time that we are using that new found talent for practical joy and positive, profitable purposes.

I am thinking of a dad or mom who comes home tired. They put a toddler on one knee, a ukelele on the other and they make music together. Both find themselves rejuvenated. The parent has just created and played a song. Give that parent a few more minutes and words are added. A few more minutes and the child is singing along. A few more months and the child has a ukelele of her own and they are playing together. EVERYBODY PROFITS FROM THE EXPERIENCE.

The poet and the songwriter find that because they can play so easily they blend music into their poetry readings. Song lyrics are easier to create in play. I do that now. Preface a poem with some instrumental introduction. Add a big finish. Break up the middle.

Since PLAY IN A DAY makes playing so easy, the retiree at the elders club or home is enjoying tremendous sing alongs. And they are starting to pass the Yuke around. And some are going off to play for the more elderly elders.

And somewhere tonight a moonstruck romantic is going to take a walk with a lover and play that freshly written tribute to true love.

And the coffee houses are going to have to share some comedian space with the ukelele song marvel who has erupted in their midst and is on the way to being an idol.

And somewhere someone is going to enjoy solitude and sitting, watching the moon and stars and blending it all into the joy of creating sound they love to hear themselves play. And the dog lying there? Chances are the dog will like music if you do. And the dog might help you in the area of sensitivity.

For the creative, nothing blows the hair back like having created something that you know works well, benefits society, and has immeasurable value.

For me, the latest is PLAY IN A DAY GUITAR UKELELE. What makes a creation even better than what I described above is nosing into a project unsure of its feasibility. With PIADGU I kept expecting each day some wrinkle that would be impossible to iron out. But, no, it went the other way. Every expectation was fulfilled and created more expectation. And now, as we say in paragliding, the sky is the limit.

The GOTCHA in PIADGU is the seasoned musician. Do I want to tell you in front of the pro who has been charging you $40 for each guitar lesson that I will provide you the material to learn to play guitar and/or ukelele in a day plus be your guiding angel for the rest of your life providing online visual chat help forever, all for the price of one $40 guitar or ukelele lesson? No, I don’t. But, neither do I want you to go through your entire life eking a little more knowledge and know how each week when you can quantum leap the first ten years.

BUT, THE GOTCHA COMES HOME TO YOU. ONCE YOU HAVE THE PLAY IN A DAY GUITAR UKELELE COURSE YOU REALLY HAVE HALF THE DEAL. GRANTED, THE BETTER HALF. BUT OVER TIME YOU WILL HAVE QUESTIONS AND I WILL HAVE ANSWERS. YOU WILL WANT EXPLANATIONS AND DEMOS AND I WILL PROVIDE THEM – -C-O-N-D-I-T-I-O-N-A-L-L-Y-

The first thing a savvy musician will say about the course is that: 1) it does not work, 2) it is misleading and does not provide a solid musical foundation for extended learning 3) “I teach you my way. Everbody has always done it my way. If this new way you have worked people would have done it decades, even centuries ago.” 4) In short you get lies and discouragement. But, the truth is this: no one will be able to argue with your playing.

SO HERE IS THE GOTCHA: YOU CANNOT EXPLAIN, ADVERTISE, REPUBLISH ANYTHING ABOUT THE PIADGU METHOD. YOU CAN ONLY SAY, “NO I CANNOT SHOW YOU, TELL YOU, TEACH YOU. BUT I WILL REFER YOU TO PLAY IN A DAY GUITAR UKELELE AND YOU CAN ASK THEM. IF YOU VIOLATE THIS ADMONITION I WILL NEVER SPEAK TO YOU AGAIN, HELP YOU AGAIN OR DEAL WITH YOU AGAIN OUTSIDE A COURT OF LAW.

Otherwise you get a course, a teacher, a guiding angel for the rest of your musical life.

I am always adding information and material to this web site. Note that whatever you find here is not part of the newsletters, mp3s, videos, etc I provide to subscribers of the course.

Feel free to wonder about the site and see the articles on what is in the course and all the info and news. When you are ready go to post on the right about purchasing the course or go to the ABOUT article at the top of the home page of the site.

Play In A Day Ukelele

I have been really excited for a couple months by my realizing that my Play In A Day Guitar method work as well for the uke as it does for the guitar. In fact for some uses I have been interested in lately I find that PLAY IN A DAY UKELELE WORKS BETTER. Yes, it all evens out eventually. But if you know anything about what I have been reaching for with PLAY IN A DAY it is a two-fer goal. One, I want you to know the joy of playing music quickly. Two, I want you to use the PLAY IN A DAY knowledge platform to advance to any level of guitar playing and understanding of music you want to reach.

I see on FaceBook more and more offers of guitar lessons. I saw one today that said it can teach you to play guitar fast. Naturally, my response is, “COMPARED TO WHAT?” Because at no point does a guitar player stop to assess his play and say, “I don’t need to learn any more. I know it all. I never need to learn anything else. If that is what one thinks, I opine that person is not yet a guitar player.

Here is what I know. If you have never played guitar before I can start you out in the morning and you will be playing when the sun goes down. You have contact with me forever via the extant media as part of the PLAY IN A DAY method. So you will always be growing

You can learn all about PLAY IN A DAY GUITAR AND UKELELE course at the site. solsmil

I studied theology at a fundamentalist (Christian, not Muslim) Bible College on the east coast. Preparation for the Sunday night service involved taking a church bus to
the red light district and trolling for sailors. [I knowwwww!]One of my mentors took his auto. He had a trunk full of electronic gear and a treasure of reel to reel tapes loaded with the recordings of the best gospel quartets.

I was crazy about gospel music then. Not just the music but the lyrics. I was studying to become a linguistic missionary and for several reasons had homed in on New Guinea as my professional target. None of those reasons solsmilexcept maybe the challenge involved being a cannibal main course. Although perhaps the challenge and dare had something to do with it.

But, I also loved the music. I was always trying to find time to put into putting together a quartet or four to represent the school at various churches. I had a good vocal range, especially for lead or tenor.

You may recall that I mentioned recently in talking about bluegrass that almost all bluegrass is written in the pentatonic blues scale.

Tonight, I was listening to my bluegrass channel on Pandora. As I played along on the bluegrass blues scales my mind was really engrossed in the a song I love best to hear sung by Andrea Bocelli although I heard it and learned it long ago sung by Julio Iglesias. I had a reason for hearing Bocelli instead of the bluegrass I was absent mindedly scaling. What I have been doing is rewriting some of the verses of some of the PopOp in a more poetically worthy form. The finished performance product would then be alternatively reading the poetry and singing verses of the song acapella and perhaps supplying an instrumental lead in and conclusion.

Without thinking about it I had begun chording the bluegrass scales coming out of Pandora. BUT, I had been chording the bluegrass using the technique I created for PLAY IN A DAY GUITAR COURSE.

GUESS WHAT! I liked it!

I felt like Mr. Natural in the story about his laying out his pallet in a desert valley which became Las Vegas while Mr. Natural sat there meditating.

Sure enough, up comes the pane in Mr. Natural comic book in which he is sitting there on the sidewalk on a bustling boulevard of gamblers searching for a place to throw away some money.

A cop raps Mr. Natural with a billy club saying, “Hey, no loitering here. Move along, Pal!”

My billy club rap was the kerchunka sound of the clothes dryer announcing its violently abrupt halt and job completion.

When Mr. Natural took the bad rap he started vibrating. He set up a vibration that grew more and more intense until he surpassed a dryer sound and the city vibrated into sand looking as it had before the coming of Mr. Natural.

Mr. Natural awoke as well. He stood, rolled his pallet and walked away saying to himself, “WoW! That was a pretty good session.”

As I emptied the now silent dryer I turned off Pandora. I said to myself, “So, it never occurred to me all those years ago gospel music appealed to me for the same reason bluegrass does.”

And it never occurred to me that PLAY IN A DAY GUITAR method is immediately provable. I can pull from an audience someone who wants to learn to play the guitar. I can break for fifteen minutes while I teach someone to play the chords a la PLAY IN A DAY GUITAR method. Then I can have them play rhythm while I play lead. What a sales technique. And what a cool way to instantly develop a rhythm guitar accompanyist for the price of an advertisement.

Maybe I will put the “stick some poetry in the Andrea Bocelli song” approach on hold for a while.

As I put the clothes away I found myself repeating the Mr. Natural line, “WoW! That was a pretty good session!”

PIAD is, media wise, a mix of mp3 files and flash video files. These can be played on any PC based, laptop, net top, and android devices. These files can also be played on most media player devices. Certainly, the mp3 files can be podded on any mp3 player.

I would suggest a larger than phone sized screen for the visual files because their purpose is to illustrate finger movement and positioning.

The files, as you receive the file folder, are reached from the home page of the folder showing the guitar player and the file elements of the folder strung down across the torso of the guitar player and the guitar he is playing.

A certain logic exists in the positions and relationships of those icons that indicate the progression of the course.

The course comprises 12 video files and 7 audio files. The space required for storage is minimal, less than 325MB or about a third of a gigabyte.

The instructional files whether mp3 or video are concise and eliminate the nonrelevant. Some of the mp3 files are more narrative and discursive to allow for a more descriptive monologue.

To enhance the accomplishment of its descriptive name, Play In A Day, one video is entitled “Let Me At It”. Imagining the person approaching his installed course, I picture a kid unwrapping toys at Christmas. So, I know the prospective guitar player wants an easy to get into lesson that can show immediate results. That works. That excitement somewhat over and seeing all the other lessons to go through, the new guitar player will proceed to pick through the lessons in a fashion that indicates one is thinking, “hmmmmmm this might require a little work.”

And it will. But it is all a refinement of the first day’s experience.

As I mentioned elsewhere, the course has more to it than the first bundle of audio and video files.

Through email and chat talk an ongoing dialogue between teacher and student continues for a long time.

My newsletter continues to arrive for a long time. The newsletter contains information that is best consumed by reading since it contains diagrams and directional pictures. But, newsletters supplements are generated as well. These are often mp3 files that contain instructional and narrative discussion that shed additional light on guitar playing, musicianship, etc.

As I also mention elsewhere, at the appropriate moment, I deliver to a second part of the course that is free. I deliver this free based on your not distributing the files of the course to others. I deliver this second part when I know from several methods of testing the water that it is time for you to advance. Not to fret. From the basic course and all the other material you will receive, you will be more than an adequate player if you want to be. In a sense, very apt students may be reaching for the second part and beginning to figure it out about the time they receive it.

I look forward to sharing what I have created with you.

One caution. I would not spend a lot of time explaining how you are playing guitar to others. People knowledgeable about the guitar will figure it out and kibbitz and criticize. I suggest you let the guitar do the talking. Do not waste time in fruitless discussions.

One other comment. Music is eternal. Intelligent music lovers are listening to music and instruments hundred of years old. Especially in this time of what appears to me as a relative musical desert, intelligent music lovers and musicians are reaching back to the beginnings of the twentieth century and from there making music history treks arriving at today. Many people are only now realizing what a heritage of brilliant musicians have created such a wealth of styles and musical examples. And we will take a look at some of these as time goes by.

Thanks for listening,
CanDoJack

PLAY ME Hi, get your audio under control and click on ‘PLAY ME’ Then after 20 secs. sound is coming – be ready to adjust the volume. A new window will open with nothing but a sound bar on the screen.

You can listen to the five minute audio and then click the top left ‘back’ arrow to return here to read this page. Or the other way around. [At the end of the audio I advise you to go to RollingYourOwnStone.com. However that name has been changed to the site you are on now so just continue your visit here. Thanks.] Anyway, you can play or replay the audio as you like.

The guitar sound behind me in the audio is an Ovation Applause guitar that I bought in a pawn shop in Reno 15 years ago.  I lived in Germany, in the southern province of Bavaria. I had brought three Bavarian paraglider buddies to California to fly as many places as we could in ten days.

We landed in a motel in Reno. The guys said, come on then, show us how to make money in this gambling town. I took them out to a pawnshop where I bought an alto sax and this Ovation guitar. I sold the sax in Germany for more than I paid for it AND the guitar.

Somehow I couldn’t bring myself to get rid of the guitar. I glued her neck a couple times. I changed the string hangers. I bedded her down in an Ovation guitar case that is probably worth more than the guitar. The frets are worn down.

But this is the guitar I choose to play often.

The song I wrote in about five minutes riding down Hiway 101 playing the harmonica.

When I started thinking about a song to use to demonstrate Play In A Day this is the song I chose. For one thing, it kinda goes with the guitar. Her name is Sabine. For a friend of mine in Bavaria (Germany).

The name of the song is, “I Love You.”

Notice that the chord changes are fast. Notice that the chord sounds slide into one another. Notice when I stop at the end of the line that everything stops for a second.

If you listen long enough you will observe the squeak of the strings in the chord changes. Since your brain is listening to the sound of the music and not the squeak, you may never notice it. Then again, it may bug you. I spend some time in the course explaining how to eliminate string squeak. You won’t believe how simply some problems are resolved.

Another thing about this audio ad is this. Twenty feet from where I made this ad is my little recording studio. I did not use it.

I made this entire audio ad with an MP3 player. A good MP3 player is a prized possession for a guitar student and performer. Notice I said a GOOD MP3 player, not an expensive one. The one I used here I paid $22 for.

I mention this because I spend considerable time in the course explaining the various values and uses a good MP3 player will have for you. Before long, you will never be without one, the one I point you to.

I mention these things because I approached the creation of this course the way I learned to program computers. I pretended I was you. In fact, I was you. I learned to play the way the course teaches as I created the course. I had been playing guitar for many years. I had to learn to do things differently. So when you hear me play in this audio ad, you are actually hearing a novice. OK, at this point I had been playing more than a day, but still.

My point is this. If you have never played a guitar before, you can play the song you are hearing as well as I am playing the song you are hearing IN A DAY.

I was talking about the way I learned to program computers. I worked in many environments but the two primary ones was defense satellite  systems and the world of airline systems, 25 major airlines around the world. I think if you fly on any of the big airlines in Europe you still will be flying on some of the software I wrote.

In this modern world, software is every where. When software has been created the goal is to show it works. Thus you get software that is full of bugs. You, the buyer and user, are, in fact, the software testers.

When we put up satellites and 747s our goal in testing was to prove the software did NOT work. How can you test if your mind is already convinced your test will pass.

I am convinced Play In A Day Guitar Course will work for you. You will progress rapidly. At some point you will begin to incorporate elements into your playing that are not in the course. But you will discover them and incorporate them because you will have incorporated from your time with the course  the ability to think new thoughts, new ways, new little tricks that work for you. You will make it personal.

You will connect with me on a chat talk. You will tell me about some discovery you have incorporated. I will not be able to hold back a smile and a feeling of pride and perhaps I will make a discovery myself as I say to myself, “heck, that’s a good idea.”

But first, let’s take this simple song from the top. OK?

A separate post category will be seen on this page under categories called Before You Buy Play In A Day. It contains a post aptly named Before You Buy Play In A Day. It will tell you what will be in the course files you receive. It will tell you what to do with those files when they come in your email marked as attachments. It will tell you how to reach me whenever you have questions. It will tell you about the PIAD Newsletter which comes to you in the email with no definite date but probably every couple weeks or so. The newsletter is based somewhat on questions we get and is like a “Frequently Asked Questions” page but more ample. Anyway, it is easy. So, read that post if you haven’t already.

I will send all the files of Play In A Day as email attachments to your email address. (Observe that some email carriers limit the maximum size of attachments. So, you may get more than one email and so, more than one attachment file.)

You will receive exact instructions for moving the attachment files to your main PIAD folder. You will also receive instructions for copying your course files to various media players to take away from your PC/laptop with you.

As long as we have email contact we are cool and good to go.

A word about Google and me. (Also, see the post entitled Google and Me in Mountain View for an interesting story about spy satellites and pre-PIAD CanDoJack.) But for now know this. I used to do all my software: for me, for my family and friends, and art organizations for whom I donated hosting support, web sites, home office/studio software, etc. etc. etc. I do not do all that anymore. Primarily Goggle does. Why this is important to you is this. I CAN BE A MORE REAL TEACHER, ADVISOR, HELP, AND GUIDE TO YOU THAN A REAL PERSON IN THE ROOM WITH YOU THROUGH GOGGLE TECHNOLOGY. So I encourage you to use Google and install the Google tools.

We do everything to enhance security, keep it simple and safe. This paypal button takes you through email and not through my or anyone’s server but paypal. See my post about using Goggle and its encryption process.

Put a comment at the bottom of this post to congratulate yourself and encourage yourself. Wow! you are going to play guitar. HERE IS THE OTHER REASON TO PUT A COMMENT. The first and only person to see your comment is me. When I see you comment to congratulate yourself I also get your email address which I can use to match with PayPal report so I can match them up and when I don’t have a match I figure out why not. By the way, nobody else sees your email address in your comment but me.
